Martin Skrivanek – Photographer

Since 1990, Martin Skrivanek has participated in approximately 250 solo and group exhibitions and international photographic salons in more than 30 countries worldwide – including the Czech Republic, Slovakia, Canada, the USA, China, Argentina, Austria, Russia, India, South Africa, Thailand, the United Kingdom, Portugal, Spain, Belgium, France, and Australia.

For his exhibition activities, he was awarded distinctions between 1990 and 2021 by the prestigious international organizations Photographic Society of America (PSA) and Fédération Internationale de l'Art Photographique (FIAP).

Artistic Development and Creative Direction

The beginnings of his work were rooted in reportage and landscape photography. In the late 1980s, he increasingly focused on staged and figurative photography while also collaborating with professional magazines, particularly within the Czech music and art scene.

In the 1990s, he created a unique series of human body imprints on photographic paper, enhanced with sand textures and subsequently transferred through photographic processes into their final form. Approximately fifty original artworks were created using this method, more than half of which are now part of private collections.

In the mid-1990s, he began developing a series of graphic prints centered on the motif of the female body and its lines. The theme of woman gradually became one of the key pillars of his artistic expression.

Since 2010, Martin has focused primarily on fine art nude photography, staged photography, platinum printing, portraiture, and still life. His work is built on strong conceptual foundations, precise work with light, and meticulous post-production.

Curatorial and Organizational Activities

In addition to his own artistic practice, Martin Skrivanek has long been dedicated to organizing and supporting the photographic scene.

He is the founder of the Czech Art Photo project, the Master Art Photo platform, and the initiator of the large-format project of Czech and Slovak independent photographers titled "60tina."

He is also the founder and organizer of the projects Torzo and Art Akt, which focus on figurative and fine art photography. Furthermore, he publishes books and almanacs of Czech and Slovak photographers and systematically supports their presentation both domestically and internationally.

Through Czech Art Photo, he brings international inspirations and personalities of world photography to the Czech environment by organizing talks, workshops, and lectures. At Ateliér 66, he teaches fine art nude photography, sharing his long-standing experience in working with light, composition, and conceptual development.

He is also the founder and principal organizer of the largest exhibition-based photography festival in the Czech Republic, Photo Art Fest Znojmo, which connects photographers and photography enthusiasts across generations.

Martin Skrivanek represents a personality who combines the roles of artist, curator, educator, and organizer. His long-term goal is to explore new forms of photographic presentation and to create space for dialogue between image, emotion, and viewer – both on the domestic scene and in an international context.

Od roku 1990 se Martin Skřivánek zúčastnil přibližně 250 samostatných a společných výstav a mezinárodních fotografických salonů ve více než 30 zemích světa – mimo jiné v České republice, na Slovensku, v Kanadě, USA, Číně, Argentině, Rakousku, Rusku, Indii, Jihoafrické republice, Thajsku, Velké Británii, Portugalsku, Španělsku, Belgii, Francii a Austrálii.

Za svou výstavní činnost byl v letech 1990–2021 oceněn prestižními mezinárodními organizacemi Photographic Society of America (PSA) a Fédération Internationale de l'Art Photographique (FIAP).

Umělecký vývoj a tvůrčí směřování

Počátky jeho tvorby byly spojeny s reportážní a krajinářskou fotografií. Koncem 80. let se začal intenzivně věnovat scénické a figurální fotografii a zároveň spolupracoval s odbornými časopisy, zejména v oblasti české hudební a umělecké scény.

V 90. letech vytvořil unikátní sérii otisků lidského těla na fotopapír, doplněných o pískové struktury a následně přenesených fotografickou cestou do finální podoby. Touto metodou vzniklo přibližně padesát originálních děl, z nichž více než polovina je dnes součástí soukromých sbírek.

V polovině 90. let začal vytvářet sérii grafických tisků zaměřených na motiv ženského těla a jeho linií. Téma ženy se postupně stalo jedním z klíčových pilířů jeho uměleckého vyjádření.

Od roku 2010 se Martin zaměřuje především na umělecký akt, scénickou fotografii, platinotypii, portrét a zátiší. Jeho tvorba je založena na silném konceptu, precizní práci se světlem a důsledné postprodukci.

Kurátorská a organizační činnost

Vedle vlastní umělecké tvorby se Martin Skřivánek dlouhodobě věnuje organizaci a podpoře fotografické scény.

Je zakladatelem projektu Czech Art Photo, platformy Master Art Photo a iniciátorem velkoformátového projektu českých a slovenských nezávislých fotografů s názvem "60tina".

Je rovněž zakladatelem a organizátorem projektů Torzo a Art Akt, které se zaměřují na figurální a výtvarnou fotografii. Zároveň vydává knihy a almanachy českých a slovenských fotografů a systematicky podporuje jejich prezentaci doma i v zahraničí.

Prostřednictvím Czech Art Photo přináší do českého prostředí inspirace a osobnosti světové fotografie formou besed, workshopů a přednášek. V Ateliéru 66 vyučuje fotografii uměleckého aktu a předává své dlouholeté zkušenosti s prací se světlem, kompozicí a budováním konceptu.

Je také zakladatelem a hlavním organizátorem největšího výstavního fotografického festivalu v České republice Photo Art Fest Znojmo, který propojuje autory i milovníky fotografie napříč generacemi.

Martin Skřivánek představuje osobnost, která propojuje roli autora, kurátora, pedagoga i organizátora. Jeho dlouhodobým cílem je hledání nových forem prezentace fotografie a vytváření prostoru pro dialog mezi obrazem, emocí a divákem – jak na domácí scéně, tak v mezinárodním kontextu.
